Rice University Energy and Environment Initiative Selects Tendenci® Open Source CMS Platform

Upgraded website to advance relationships for research, collaboration and sponsorships

Rice University IIE is now using TendenciHOUSTON, July 1, 2014 – Tendenci (www.tendenci.com), the software development company spearheading the Tendenci® Open Source Content Management System (CMS) project for associations and other nonprofits (NPOs), is proud to release a dynamic new website for Rice University’s Energy and Environment Initiative. The website, http://eei.rice.edu, is powered by Tendenci Open Source CMS, which ensures that the initiative’s online presence keeps pace with the rapid increase in its activity and visibility.

Tendenci Open Source CMS was released as an open source solution to give cause-related organizations greater freedom and control over their online presence.

The Energy and Environment Initiative supports research that draws experts from every corner of Rice University. The upgraded website prominently features the initiative’s five key markets – Oil and Gas, Power, Petrochemicals, Energy Information and Environment – and related research efforts that are underway.

“The idea is to make it easy for interested parties, such as businesses, other universities, governments and foundations to learn about our work and begin to explore opportunities for collaboration, partnerships and sponsorships,” said Kelly Cline, the Energy and Environment Initiative program manager. “Our new website will be an essential tool to establish and strengthen a community of organizations determined to overcome barriers to the sustainable development and use of current and alternative forms of energy.”

Among the capabilities that make the Tendenci platform so powerful is its ability to sort and analyze the activity of website users. This allows organizations using Tendenci to better target and tailor information based on observed user behaviors.

The Energy and Environment Initiative encourages frequent return visits to the website by constantly updating content using Tendenci’s CMS. It is easy to create new pages, update and organize website content, and post news and articles. To leverage the full breadth of Rice University’s communications infrastructure, Tendenci uses tags to automatically pull relevant headlines from the university’s RSS feed, which keeps the home page fresh.

To demonstrate expertise and share knowledge, the initiative uses Tendenci’s integrated rich media management to easily upload, view and search videos. Tendenci’s integrated business directory capability to feature partner organizations. And with Tendenci’s online event management, the initiative can easily post and promote upcoming speaking engagements and conferences.

Tendenci has more than 1 million users and currently powers hundreds of websites for organizations around the world, including Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org) and DePelchin™ Children's Center (www.depelchin.org).

Over its 32 years, the organization has expanded to encompass 86 bedrooms at 8 locations throughout the Texas Medical Center. Tendenci is the only open source CMS platform designed for the unique needs of NPOs.

"The fact that Tendenci is open source is important because it gives us a lot of flexibility and we can do a lot more things than we could with our previous website," said Catie Tuley, marketing coordinator with Ronald McDonald House Houston. "Our new website does a great job of encouraging the community to get involved in various ways – by making an online donation, hosting a meal, donating items on our 'Wish List', or launching a fundraising campaign of their own."

Ronald McDonald House Houston uses Tendenci's CMS to easily add, update and organize website content, encouraging users to keep coming back. To feature evidence of the organization's good works, the website uses Tendenci's integrated rich media management to easily upload, view and search photos. Tendenci's online event management enables Ronald McDonald House Houston to quickly and easily add events to its online calendar.

Behind the scenes, the website enables the organization to sort and analyze the activity of website users, making it possible to improve delivery of services to families based on user behaviors and to better target and tailor marketing initiatives. Tendenci's built-in invoicing and financial reporting capabilities enable Ronald McDonald House Houston to examine which fundraising activities are performing. Tendenci also includes built-in automatic search engine optimization and social media integration.

Tendenci® Open Source CMS Website Expected to Play Key Role in Rotary Firefighters Home Fundraising Effort

Campaign encourages online community to respond to housing needs of ailing firefighters

RFFH.jpgHOUSTON, December 2, 2013 – Tendenci Open Source Content Management System (CMS) (www.tendenci.com) is providing a spark for the Rotary Club of University Area’s heartwarming campaign to provide low-cost housing to firefighters and other first responders who come to Houston to undergo treatment at the Texas Medical Center. The Rotary has kicked off a $15 million fundraising effort and launched a new website, http://rotaryfirefightershome.org/, powered by Tendenci to spearhead the initiative.

Tendenci is the first open source CMS built for cause-related organizations such as the Rotary Firefighters Home fundraising campaign. With Tendenci’s online donation and fundraising management capabilities, the Rotary Firefighters Home can accept donations online, organize and track donations, and automatically generate invoices and reports – all inside one easy to use software platform.

“We like the fact that Tendenci provides online donors to the Rotary Firefighters Home instant confirmation when their donation is processed and – without us having to do anything – Tendenci automatically generates an invoice and emails a copy to the donor with all the information required for submitting to the IRS for tax purposes,” said Rotary Firefighters Home Founding Director Jerry Harris. “We expect the website to be the heart and soul of this campaign, explaining to people around the world the health consequences – particularly cancer – that firefighters face and the need for low-cost housing during their extended stays here.”

Health insurance typically does not cover lodging expenses, and the cost of hotels and short-term housing can be crippling for patients and families coming to Houston for treatment. The Rotary Club of the University Area has undertaken the project of providing housing to professional and volunteer firefighters and other first responders at little or no cost for use while they undergo treatment at the TMC for any on-the-job injury or resulting work-related medical condition.

With Tendenci, the Rotary Firefighters Home campaign can easily manage and organize website content, resulting in a more current and dynamic user experience and return visits. To feature architectural renderings and a floor plan of the facility, the website also includes rich media management, making it easy to upload, view and search photos. Tendenci’s online event management enables the campaign to quickly and easily add events to the online calendar.

Tendenci was released as an open source CMS to give cause-related organizations, including nonprofits and associations, greater freedom and control over their online presence. Tendenci has more than 1 million users and powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Rice University’s Baker Institute (http://bakerinstitute.org/), Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org) and DePelchin Children's Center (www.depelchin.org).

Schipul – The Web Marketing Company Becomes Tendenci

Rebranding Aligns Company Name with Focus on Tendenci® Open Source CMS Platform

tendenci_logo.jpegHOUSTON, November 18, 2013 – To better align its corporate identity with the company’s current and future focus, Schipul – The Web Marketing Company has changed its name to Tendenci - The Open Source AMS. The change illustrates the company’s commitment to the Tendenci® Open Source content management system (CMS) for nonprofits. The company will continue to provide Web marketing services to current and future customers through its Schipul Web Marketing business unit.

“After building the Schipul brand since 1997 to be among the leaders in Web marketing in Houston, this is not a change we took lightly,” said Ed Schipul, CEO of Tendenci - The Open Source AMS. “We have a window of opportunity to make Tendenci Open Source CMS the world’s leading OPEN - Source software platform for nonprofit organizations (NPOs), associations and other cause-related organizations – and nothing can illustrate our laser focus on the open Tendenci community like changing our name to Tendenci.”

These organizations deserve an open source website management platform purpose-built for their unique technology needs.

“We have experienced growing interest and excitement around the Tendenci project, and we foresee tremendous opportunity for us to enable NPOs, associations and other cause-related organizations to connect and organize the world’s people and do good, which has been our vision since day one,” said Schipul. “We are redoubling our efforts to make it easy for the open source community to participate in the development of the Tendenci CMS platform for the benefit of thousands if not millions of cause-related organizations.”

Last year, following a decade of in-house development, Schipul released Tendenci CMS as an open source solution to give cause-related organizations greater freedom and control over their online presence. Tendenci Open Source CMS platform offers functionality purpose-built to serve the unique needs of these organizations, such as donation and fundraising management, online events management and registration, membership management, rich media management, integrated search engine optimization, and more.

Tendenci® CMS Platform Powers Website for Montessori School of Downtown

Each campus uses easily updated calendars, school lunch menus and photo galleries to reflect their unique personality

Tendenci Powers Education WebsiteHOUSTON, August 14, 2013 – Montessori School of Downtown, the fastest growing school program in Texas, is preparing for the new school year with a vibrant new website, https://www.montessoridowntown.com, which is powered by Tendenci (www.tendenci.com), the open source Content Management System (CMS) for nonprofit organizations (NPOs). The new website is helping the campuses of Montessori School Downtown to strengthen bonds with the families of their existing students and to provide all the information necessary to help other families decide if Montessori School of Downtown is right for them.

The upgraded website for Montessori School of Downtown, which has campuses in downtown Houston, Medical Center, Clear Lake, Pearland and Silverlake, was designed by Schipul - The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing and software development company based in Houston.

"With Tendenci, our new website is more user friendly and, because it is easy to update and add new content regularly, our parent community is encouraged to visit regularly to stay informed, which is good for everyone involved," said Barbara Bergeron, Director with Montessori School Downtown. "Each of the campuses has a unique personality, so it is very powerful for staff at each campus to be able to keep their online calendars, newsletters and lunch menus updated and to post photos of events themselves without having to go through a webmaster."

Despite having a great deal of information available for parents and families considering sending their children to Montessori School of Downtown, the simple design of the website features big, bright photos of children and makes it easy to navigate to find upcoming events, news and announcements, downloadable enrollment and medical forms, and testimonials from parents.

Montessori School of Downtown, which has a child-centered philosophy that emphasizes individualized learning, is the latest education-related organization to select Tendenci CMS. Others include Beaumont Independent School District, Castle Hills First Baptist School, Children's Assessment Center, Houston Public Library Foundation, Inclusive Schools Network and World Class Learning Academy.

Last year, Tendenci was released as an open source CMS to give NPOs greater freedom and control over their online presence. Tendenci has more than 1 million users and currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org) and Komen Houston (www.komen-houston.org).

Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans Launches Upgraded Website Powered by Tendenci® CMS Platform

Content Management System purpose-built for nonprofits provides "absolute control"

AAMA.jpgHOUSTON, June 25, 2013 – The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA), which inspires and empowers at-risk Latinos to pursue their potential and achieve success, today announced the launch of its upgraded website, https://www.aama.org. The site is powered by Tendenci (www.tendenci.com), the open source Content Management System (CMS) for nonprofit organizations (NPOs).

To give NPOs such as AAMA greater control over their online presence, Tendenci CMS was released as an open source product last year. AAMA's upgraded website was designed by Schipul - The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing and software development company based in Houston.

"With Tendenci, we have absolute control over all our content – from the rotator on the home page to way events are promoted," said Kathryn Butcher, vice president, public relations with AAMA. "We want to encourage frequent visits from people who care about at-risk Latinos, so the new website is dynamic and designed to be updated frequently. We are very pleased."

Like many nonprofit organization websites, the AAMA site needs to interact with multiple audiences without being confusing or overly complicated. In addition to the main website that provides information to volunteers, financial contributors and others interested in helping Latinos become productive contributors, the upgrade included the development of a subsidiary site for AAMA's Sanchez Charter School, which provides critical information to current and prospective students and their families.

"It was essential that the website make it easy for the school staff to take ownership of their own content without sacrificing consistency with the main AAMA site in terms of branding or how the story is told," said Butcher. "The Schipul team came up with a good solution that ensures the school site can focus on things that matter to the school community and the main AAMA site can focus on the overall mission of the organization."

The website features prominent buttons encouraging visitors to donate and to sign up for AAMA's newsletter. It utilizes Tendenci's calendar event management capabilities to promote and manage registration and payment (when applicable) for upcoming events. The upgraded website also features digital media management package that makes it easy for the association to upload and share photos as well as a job board for posting positions and easily searching for listed jobs.

Tendenci CMS has more than 1 million users and currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org) and Komen Houston (www.komen-houston.org).

Tendenci® CMS Platform Powers New Website for International Association of Innovation Professionals

Website essential for membership management and recruitment for startup association

International Association of Innovation Professionals Tendenci WebsiteHOUSTON, June 4, 2013 – The International Association of Innovation Professionals, the world’s only innovation certification body, has selected Tendenci (www.tendenci.com), the open source Content Management System (CMS) for nonprofit organizations (NPOs), to power its new website, www.iaoip.org. The new website was developed using one of Tendenci’s design templates by Schipul - The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing and software development company based in Houston.

Schipul released Tendenci CMS as an open source product to give NPOs such as the International Association of Innovation Professionals greater control over their online presence.

The International Association of Innovation Professionals provides members with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to deliver innovation in their respective industries or fields. Through its new website, the association promotes and organizes working groups and conferences, as well as advancing innovation through professional certifications. The website includes an online membership application with online payment, a job board for posting positions and easily searching for listed jobs, and calendar event management capabilities to promote and manage registration and payment for upcoming events.

“We selected Tendenci based on the fact that it was purpose-built for associations, which means it has a feature set that gives our association the ability to do everything we wanted online without further customization,” said Brett Trusko, President and CEO of the International Association of Innovation Professionals. “We have members around the world, so the website is an essential tool for organizing the innovation community and keeping them updated on developments in our organization and profession.”

HealthBridge Children’s Hospital Website

Website upgrade emphasizes organization’s compassionate, family-centered environment

HealthBridge.jpgHOUSTON, December 20, 2012 – Schipul - The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing and software development company, today announced the launch of a new upgraded website for HealthBridge Children’s Hospital powered by Tendenci Content Management System (www.tendenci.com). The new website, www.healthbridgehouston.com, showcases how the organization’s state-of-the-art technology and highly skilled personnel combine with its culture of caring to promote healing.

HealthBridge Children’s Hospital is a Pediatric Specialty hospital in Houston that provides rehabilitative, sub-acute and post-acute specialty medical care. The hospital serves children that have been affected by serious injury, acute illness, premature birth, brain and spinal cord injury, major surgery, chronic disease or any other life-altering event. HealthBridge Children’s Hospital delivers state-of-the-art pediatric medical services in a compassionate, family-centered environment; as such, it was important that the new website reflect both the superior quality of medical care as well as the hospital’s nurturing environment.

“When families come to us, they are in crisis and it is our goal to be a beacon of hope during a very stressful time,” said Maureen Arvanetakis, vice president of sales and marketing for Nexus Health Systems, HealthBridge’s parent company. “HealthBridge serves as the transition between hospital and home, which is why it is important that our online presence reflects the loving, caring family-centered environment we provide for the children, their families, and each other.”

Tendenci CMS makes it easy for Arvanetakis and others throughout the organization to add and update content.
“We needed more control over our content,” Arvanetakis said. “Our previous system was a nightmare because it was so difficult to make changes that we usually avoided it, which made our old site static and stale. Instead of waiting two or three weeks for content to be updated, Tendenci enables us to go in and immediately make changes ourselves.”

The website was designed by Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com). Its improved navigation makes it easy to quickly review HealthBridge Children’s Hospital’s broad range of inpatient, outpatient and specialty services, access online resources and stay up to date on the latest news.

Earlier this year, Tendenci CMS was released as an open source product to give organizations such as HealthBridge Children’s Hospital greater control. Tendenci CMS has more than 1 million users and currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Komen Houston (www.komen-houston.org) and Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org).

World Class Learning Schools Develops New Websites on Tendenci® CMS Platform

Innovative and Easy-to-Use CMS provides more interactivity and information sharing

tendenci_red_medium_200x102.jpgHOUSTON, January 26, 2012 – World Class Learning Schools, an international network of schools that prepares students to meet the growing challenges of a rapidly changing world, has selected Tendenci (www.tendenci.com) as the Web content management software (CMS) that will create, manage and deploy content across its websites.  Zulu Creative (www.zulucreative.com) is providing the Web design and assisting with content development for the project. The user-friendly design is based on the results of a series of usability tests conducted with the sites’ stakeholders. A total of 10 World Class Learning Schools' websites will launch in early spring.

World Class Learning Schools operates schools in Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, New York, Washington, DC, Madrid and in Qatar. The upgraded Tendenci websites will make it possible for each World Class Learning School to add and edit dynamic content on their website. “We have a number of various stakeholder groups, including students, parents, teachers and organizations and people considering our schools; we appreciate that Tendenci’s selective permissions controls make it possible for us to speak to those targeted audiences and to develop content that is of specific interest to them,” said Monica Harter, marketing and communications director with World Class Learning Schools. “We have so much information about learning and our vibrant school communities and look forward to being able to sharing that information to its greatest extent.”

Tendenci provides World Class Learning Schools a full set of automated Web marketing tools bundled inside the website CMS software, including Search Engine Optimization capabilities to raise website visibility on Google and other major search engines. Tendenci supports digital media with online photo and video galleries, which are perfect for showcasing school activities and events. Website users can also subscribe to update alerts through the integrated Really Simple Syndication (RSS).

Tendenci, which is developed and marketed by Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), integrates with Campaign Monitor’s e-mail marketing software to create and send school newsletters and stay engaged with their community online after class.
