Easy to use and highly functional site offers deep resources for breast cancer community

HOUSTON, June 26, 2012 – The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has unveiled a fresh new website, sponsored by Schlumberger and powered by Tendenci (www.tendenci.com) content management system (CMS), to serve the breast cancer community. The new website, www.komen-houston.org, features a bright updated design that is simple for Komen Houston staff to update and easy for users to navigate. The website was designed by Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com).

Tendenci CMS was designed specifically for non-profit organizations (NPOs) and associations, and it helps Komen Houston keep true to its mission to find a cure and eradicate breast cancer. For instance, Tendenci makes it easy for Komen Houston staff to add and edit website content showcasing upcoming events, ways people can get involved, the good works of volunteers and how donated funds are used to provide innovative breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects.

Tendenci’s events management capabilities enable Komen Houston to organize and promote events with an easy-to-update online calendar. The new Komen Houston website’s photo galleries feature hundreds of photos uploaded with the click of a mouse. Of course information on the next Komen Houston Race for the Cure and how to donate is highly visible throughout the site.

“Our vision is for the website to be the focal point for the greater Houston area’s breast cancer community – the place to go for information, resources and support in our battle against breast cancer, whether you need it or you want to give it,” said Adriana M. Higgins, executive director of Komen Houston. “With Tendenci and through the support of our website sponsor Schlumberger, we expect the website to be a dynamic resource, encouraging people to visit us regularly, which deepens our connection and makes our relationship with the community more meaningful.”

The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has granted more than $28 million for community grants in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties. The Affiliate’s granting process ensures the impartial allocation of funds to qualified NPOs helping breast cancer survivors and their families get the treatment and support they need.

Earlier this year, Schipul – The Web Marketing Company, which created Tendenci, released Tendenci as an open source product, which gives NPOs such as Komen Houston a greater sense of control. The Tendenci Open Source download is available at https://github.com/tendenci/tendenci. Komen Houston’s website is powered by Schipul’s hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Tendenci product, which is now listed on AWS Marketplace to simplify deployment and management on Amazon EC2.

Tendenci currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), and Think LA (https://www.thinkla.org/). It has more than 1 million users.
