Tendenci® CMS Platform Helps Advance Connect Australia’s Global Community

Tendenci now available as an open source product

Advance - Australia's Global Community - Tendenci WebsiteHOUSTON, May 1, 2012 – With the goal of connecting the estimated 1 million Australians living abroad, the nonprofit organization, Advance, is using Tendenci (www.tendenci.com) content management system (CMS) as a key component of its community engagement toolkit. Tendenci CMS, recently released as an open source product, is designed specifically for non-profit organizations (NPOs) and associations. It powers Advance’s redeveloped and improved website, https://www.advance.org/, which was designed by Publicis Mojo in Sydney.

Tendenci CMS makes it easy for the eight-person staff of Advance to add and edit website content, including text, videos, event listings and job openings without needing to know html or hassling with a webmaster. Tendenci’s video plugin makes it possible for Advance to feature its latest online video content from other sites into a single “Advance TV” page. A color coded events calendar makes it easy for Advance members to quickly find and register for events in their part of the world.

“We currently have 22,000 members around the world, but our new website positions us to be able to reach and connect every Australian expatriate so we can leverage the community as a powerful knowledge network and resource,” said Jess Kelso, manager, online engagement for Advance. “With a community that spans over 90 countries the membership management task is massive and Tendenci CMS has been up to the challenge.”

The clean, inviting design by Publicis Mojo plays heavily on the use of ripples that represent the Advance global community and all of the members within it. The new website launch and rebrand coincides with the organization’s 10th anniversary.

Earlier this month, Schipul released Tendenci as an open source product. This gives NPOs such as Advance a greater sense of control. According to the 2011 Nonprofit Data Ecosystem Report from the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN), over 90 percent of Nonprofits surveyed manage their website content on either an open source or custom in-house built CMS. The Tendenci Open Source download is available at https://github.com/tendenci/tendenci.

Tendenci currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), and Think LA (https://www.thinkla.org/). It has more than 1 million users.

Houston Museum District Puts Tendenci® CMS Platform on Display

Tendenci now available as an open source product

Houston Museum District websiteHOUSTON, April 17, 2012 – Houston Museum District Association has launched its new website, https://houmuse.org/, powered by Tendenci (www.tendenci.com) content management system (CMS). With Tendenci CMS, which was designed specifically for non-profits organizations (NPOs) and associations, Houston Museum District staff can easily and quickly update information about events and exhibits at the district’s 19 museums.

Earlier this month, Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), which developed and managed the proprietary Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model of Tendenci, released Tendenci as an open source product. The Tendenci Open Source download is available athttps://github.com/tendenci/tendenci.

“We selected Tendenci because it is a complete solution that satisfies all our needs, including modules for events management, online donations, photo albums and videos,” said Laurette Canizares, executive director of the Houston Museum District Association. “We are thrilled that the website is so intuitive and easy to update – even for those who have never used a CMS before. By keeping the information fresh, we can accurately capture how exciting and active the district is. The fact that Tendenci is now open source also gives us a greater sense of control.”

The Houston Museum District Association is a 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes the 19 museums within a 1.5 mile radius of the Mecom Fountain as a destination to maximize the use of artistic, scientific and educational resources of its institutions. Tendenci provides Houston Museum District a bundled set of automated Web marketing tools, including a robust events calendar that serves to showcase the many events happening daily across the museums, a donation form, and rich media photo gallery and video gallery.

Additionally, the Schipul team created a custom plug-in that provides each individual museum a page that aggregates content related to that museum from throughout the website – including events, photos, and special offers. The staff from each museum has the ability to update their museum’s page using the Tendenci CMS.

Despite offering a large volume of information about the 19 institutions in the district, the designers at Schipul created a clean, simple and inviting look. Those interested in a particular institution will find the navigation makes it easy to peel back the layers and explore the full depth of information on any topic.

Tendenci currently powers hundreds of websites for nonprofit organizations and associations around the world, including Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Metropolitan New York Library Council (www.metro.org), and Think LA (https://www.thinkla.org/). It has more than 1 million users.

Tendenci® 5 Powers Upgraded Website for North American Brain Injury Society

Website helps to advance mission of moving brain injury science into practice

The new NABIS website built on Tendenci 5HOUSTON, December 20, 2011 – Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing, social media consulting and Web design company, today announced the launch of a new upgraded website for the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS). The website, www.nabis.org, is powered by Tendenci 5 (www.tendenci.com) membership management software. Schipul designed the new NABIS website.

Through its website, NABIS provides the community of multidisciplinary professionals dedicated to brain injury with education programs, publications, scientific updates and a platform for communication and professional exchange. Tendenci 5’s content management system (CMS) makes it easy for NABIS to add and edit content, manage membership applications and renewals, promote and manage events, and keep members updated on the latest news.

“We have members only come together once a year from throughout North America, so it is imperative that we have an easy-to-use, intuitive site that serves as a platform for educational exchange for members,” said Margaret Roberts, Executive Director, Administration with NABIS. “Tendenci’s membership management features are a significant improvement and have made us more efficient and better positioned to add value to our members.”

Tendenci’s membership management tools give NABIS and other associations the ability to customize membership types, membership applications, reminders and renewal notices. Association administrators can control the content members can access and update, and what price they pay for events, directories, and job board postings. Tendenci also includes all the tools needed to accept online payments, create professional-looking invoices, organize online financial transactions and generate accurate reports.

Schipul – The Web Marketing Company Uses New Capabilities in Tendenci® 5 to Give Web Users What They Want

Dynamic, relational content delivers information specific to the user’s interests

Tendenci 5 Provides Flexibility in Designing Sites that Deliver AnswersHOUSTON, March 24, 2011
 – Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com), a leading Web marketing and Web design company, is hoping the launch of its newly upgraded website puts the final nail in the coffin of old school “brochure” websites. Powered by Tendenci 5, the latest release of the powerful online management software (www.tendenci.com), the new Schipul website features leading edge capabilities designed to cater to the interests of the user.

“Static, one dimensional websites served a purpose 15 years ago, but the needs and expectations of Web users are vastly different today,” said President and CEO Ed Schipul. “Every person who lands at a website is seeking answers and they’ll click away in a heartbeat if they don’t immediately find specifically what they are looking for.”

Schipul has updated Tendenci 5 to work on the Django open source framework, providing greater flexibility with custom Django application integration and greater integration with social media and video sites. In addition to Schipul’s new website, Tendenci 5 powers websites for Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), Discovery Green (www.discoverygreen.com), Tendenci and YMCA Houston (www.ymcahouston.org).

Tendenci 5, which is developed in Houston by Schipul’s programming team, headed by Programming Director and Schipul Partner Jennifer Ulmer, dynamically pulls content – including photos, videos, links to case studies, blog posts and staff bios – from throughout the website that align with the subject matter the Web user is seeking.

“The thinking used to be if you build a website, they will come,” said Schipul. “These leading edge capabilities flip that philosophy around -- so when users come, the website will build a customized page specific to their interests.”

The upgraded Schipul website includes a number of unexpected elements. Large images dominate the home page that play-up the work their clients do. Feeds from the Schipul Blog (www.blog.schipul.com) and the SEM Blog (www.thesemblog.com) are prominently featured. And each time the home page is refreshed, a different Schipul staffer is featured along with a different inspirational quote.

“Our mantra is to deliver fresh, relevant, valuable content to meet the needs of Web users and keep them coming back,” said Schipul. “The technology is interesting, but it is secondary to telling great stories.”

Social Media Specialist Ed Schipul to Present “Uncommon Storytelling” to PRSA Gulfstream Chapter

FORT LAUDERDALE, April 20, 2009 – Social media tools have become essential for public relations professionals, but many still wonder how to get the greatest positive impact from these technologies. Social media and Web marketing specialist Ed Schipul, CEO of Schipul – The Web Marketing Company (www.schipul.com) will present, “Uncommon Storytelling: Putting the Relations Back Into Public Relations with Social Media,” at this week’s Public Relations Society of America Gulfstream Chapter luncheon.

Schipul will discuss how to leverage social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube to accelerate PR success. He will also reveal the dos and don’ts of participating in online conversations.

“Virtually every week we see examples of companies that make serious mistakes or miss opportunities because they don’t understand the rules of engagement in the online environment,” said Schipul.

He points to Dominos Pizza as an example of an organization that was slow to embrace social media and paid the price for it. When videos were posted on YouTube showing Dominos employees doing disgusting things with food, Dominos kept a low profile, which hurt the company’s reputation.

“Hoping nobody is going to notice when potentially harmful conversations are happening online is a recipe for disaster,” said Schipul. “The good news is that used strategically, social media can help to create deeper and more meaningful connections between brands and their communities.”

Schipul’s presentation is scheduled for noon, Thursday, April 23, 2009 at JM Family Enterprises in Deerfield Beach. Advance registration is $20 for PRSA members and $30 for non-members. For more information, visit www.prsagulfstream.org.
